Virtual Panel: Earth Observation Data to the Aid of the European Green Deal in Agriculture

On-Demand Webinar

Agriculture is a key sector in the fight against climate change. Considering the high share of agricultural land on the EU’s territory, agricultural practices have a direct and widespread impact on the carbon cycle and the amount of carbon capture in soils. At the policy level, several frameworks focus on higher climate ambitions and provide among other incentives for agricultural management practices to support emission reductions.

Earth Observation data is recognized as an important source of information to monitor the impact of agricultural management practices over time and support quantifying its effects on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Today’s high spatial and temporal resolution satellites offer the possibility to monitor processes over vast areas and scale up information which is collected at field level. This can be used both to identify gaps and drive the decision-making process in the agricultural sector towards reaching the emission reduction targets.

In this event which is organized under the umbrella of the EU Green Week we would like to demonstrate and discuss the possibilities of Earth Observation data applied to the agricultural sector through concrete project examples.
