Trees & Transparency: Scaling Forest Carbon Monitoring, Reporting & Verification

Join remote sensing, climate, and forest experts from Upstream Tech, Salo Sciences, and Planet Labs PBC for an engaging discussion on forest conservation, restoration, and the potential for remote sensing to contribute to this work.

Understanding the progress of forest planting, growth, survivorship, and carbon sequestration has traditionally required costly, time-intensive field visits and specialized expertise. Technology, satellites, and machine learning have enabled accurate digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (Digital MRV) of the credibility and value of reforestation, restoration, and forest carbon projects. This panel will examine new methods and tools for efficiently measuring and valuing forest carbon at scale, what climate advocates are doing now to leverage this new data set via Lens for Carbon, and thoughts on how the carbon market for forest carbon credits will evolve in the future.

Panelists:

  • Tara O'Shea, Senior Director of Forests & Land Use at Planet Labs PBC
  • Dave Marvin, Co-Founder & CEO at Salo Sciences, Inc
  • Abby Smith, Head of Product - Lens at Upstream Tech
